An interview with our Founder, Wynn Godbold
Interviewer:What is your vision for education and teachers?
Wynn: “I would love to see the world filled with teachers who are passionate about what they do, confident in their craft, and joyful in their life and work.”
Interviewer: What’s wrong with the current way we are approaching education?
Wynn: “The world has changed and will continue to change rapidly. Our old ways of thinking and educating children will not work anymore. That’s common knowledge. There’s plenty of fussing and blaming going on, but lost in all of this are our teachers. Yes, I said our teachers. Blows your mind that I didn’t say the children? Well, they are certainly losing out, but that’s because the link to their success is the teacher; be that the public or private school teacher, the home schooling mom or the alternative educator, even administrators deeply influence children. All of these folks are part of the link that is being weakened and worn thin. This is wrong! These folks are our vital link to framing and shaping the future- which is the children. But, we keep beating them up and burning them out.”
Interviewer: So what do you think you can do about it?
Wynn: “Our Bee Sharp mission is to go straight to the heart of the matter: the educators. I work with folks across the United States. I meet people all the time who really desire to move mountains and change lives. These are passionate people willing to do whatever it takes to help a child, but that is often the breaking point. Here’s where things really get out of whack. Teachers work themselves to the bone trying to follow mandates and accountability requirements and then get beat up when these efforts do not yield the expected results- on a student measure that happens to be well intended, but also a mess. What my team and I endeavor to do is break this cycle! I did it for myself when I was a public school teacher and I’ve been helping others do the same. Armed with this achievement, the Bee Sharp team is now set on a mission to bring authenticity, joy, and success to passionate teachers.”
Interviewer: So how does this work?
Wynn: “There are two paths that we believe have to be traveled. The first path consists of personally developing professional knowledge. The second path leads to clarifying and creating lives of purpose. The two paths merge and overlap each other throughout the journey, and the journey never ends. That’s really the most wonderful thing I have grown to love over time: the continuing journey. I believe this is at the heart of every passionate educator- the continuing journey of lifelong learning! That’s a very simplistic way of describing things, but that’s the heart of the matter. I work with folks who are willing to take responsibility for their professional learning and their personal growth; people who want to change the aching in their heart to joy! There are many ways to begin the journey. Interviewer: What is the one last thought you’d like to share with folks who are passionate about reaching kids?
Wynn: “The combination of being confident in your own professional knowledge and clear about your life of purpose will change your life, love, and teaching in ways you can not imagine. My best advice is to get up with a mentor who can help you develop both areas of your life. It will change everything!”
